Alfred Charles, Koh Phangan
Biography
Alfred Charles is an artist and co-founder of Spirit House Gallery. His work is rooted in the physical -- in material, texture, and the marks that hands make on surfaces. Working across painting, mixed media, and print, his practice draws on the visual language of the island alongside broader influences from art history, culture, and everyday life on Koh Phangan.
Alfred co-founded Spirit House in 2023 as a space that could hold both the commercial and the communal -- a gallery where original work could be bought and sold, but also where anyone could pull up a chair and make something.
